Metal Gorget

$20.00

In earlier times, the gorget was a valuable piece of armor that protected the wearer’s neck from injury. By the colonial era however, the gorget was a more decorative and symbolic part of a uniform. It would have been worn on a strap around the neck of a soldier, typically an officer, and symbol’s of that person’s military rank would have been etched into the surface. This gorget is an un-etched replica. There is also some historical evidence that the gorget was what inspired the crescent design on the South Carolina state flag, and not a moon.
