Coronavirus Response

Updated March 26, 2020

As always, and especially during flu season, the health and safety of our visitors, staff, and volunteers is the single most important consideration for The Powder Magazine. Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is currently present in Charleston County.

What We Are Doing:

Based on the recommendations of national and local authorities regarding COVID-19, The Powder Magazine museum will close to the public beginning March 18th and remain closed until at least April 3rd. There is currently a 'stay at home' order for the City of Charleston.

We are monitoring announcements by officials from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about coronavirus in South Carolina. We are also monitoring SCDHEC and the Charleston County government. In addition to our usual cleaning practices, we are following the steps issued by the CDC to help reduce the spread of the disease.

Our Facebook is still active, and we hope to have more interactive content in the coming days and weeks. Staff are not currently on site and our telephone is not monitored.

What You Can Do:

Follow recommended procedures from the CDC. This includes washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds, avoiding touching your face, coughing and/or sneezing into a tissue, and staying home except for essential outings.
